I'm putting this scsi error problem down to dying hardware. I went back to the 20040108 iso that I'm previously used, and am getting similar (and worse) symptoms, only on one of the two disks. So, I still think ia64 d-i is ok for beta2, assuming initrd-tools gets included on the netinst ISO. No new ISOs generated since 20040111 though.
