I can strongly recommend FAI for automated installations. The documentation is quite good. There is a bit of a time investment in getting it set up initially, but it's well worth the time spent (IMHO).
my main complaint against FAI, if i remember well, is it need a debian server. i'm mainly looking for something which could be install from any tftp/dhcp/(ftp|http(s)|nfs|???) server.
i also want to test d-i.
