Debian-Installer only installes the bare minimum, called the base-system. It consists of the packages on which the developers agree that every Debian system must have to be functioning. It seems that base has grown a bit since woody, so I'm sorry it does not fit onto your hard disk anymore. I suppose there is not much you can do about it.
