I've gotten help from Chris Halls about what I should type, but his instructions didn't work. I tried plausible modifications of his instructions, also didn't work. I went back and tried United States, ftp.us.debian.org and it started downloading. This proves to me that at least some of my setup is ok. But then I tried 'enter information manually' again and, this time, entered http://ftp.us.debian.org/ I got the same error message from anna that I had been getting in all my attempts to access my apt-proxy: wget: http: Unknown host Of course, I really don't want to access ftp.us.debian.org directly. I just tried it to diagnose where the problem resides. It is easy for me to reproduce the effect, so I can post answers to detailed questions. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux big 2.4.18-686 #1 Sun Apr 14 11:32:47 EST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C --------------------------------------- Received: (at 215620-done) by bugs.debian.org; 13 Oct 2003 22:37:36 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Oct 13 17:37:04 2003 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from mail.peakpeak.com (gash2.peakpeak.com) [207.174.178.17] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1A9BJH-0001aF-00; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 17:37:03 -0500 Received: from big.lan.gnu (tz0102.peakpeak.com [207.174.69.102]) by gash2.peakpeak.com (8.9.3/8.9.3.1) with ESMTP id QAA21699 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 16:37:02 -0600 Received: from pecondon by big.lan.gnu with local (Exim 3.36 #1 (Debian)) id 1A9BJ9-0000Xa-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 16:36:55 -0600 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fixed by Sebastian Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> From: Paul E Condon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 16:36:55 -0600 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=2.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_99 version=2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_10_13 X-Spam-Level: ** X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_10_13 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) Not really fixed.
