Hi, GNU Make now has a --shuffle option that simulates non-deterministic ordering of target prerequisites. See https://trofi.github.io/posts/238-new-make-shuffle-mode.html and also previous work in Debian by Santiago Vila: https://people.debian.org/~sanvila/make-shuffle/ This package fails to build with make --shuffle=reverse. This is likely to be caused by a missing dependency in debian/rules or an upstream Makefile. More information about this mass bug filing is available at https://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS/Shuffle Relevant part (hopefully): > make[2]: Entering directory '/build/reproducible-path/main-menu-1.69' > <builtin>: update target 'main-menu.o' due to: target does not exist > cc -Os -g -O2 -Werror=implicit-function-declaration > -ffile-prefix-map=/build/reproducible-path/main-menu-1.69=. > -fstack-protector-strong -fstack-clash-protection -Wformat > -Werror=format-security -fcf-protection -Wall -W -D_GNU_SOURCE -Os > -fomit-frame-pointer -DSMALL -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -c -o > main-menu.o main-menu.c > main-menu.c: In function ‘di_config_package’: > main-menu.c:848:29: warning: this statement may fall through > [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] > 848 | ret = -1; > | ~~~~^~~~ > main-menu.c:849:17: note: here > 849 | case EXIT_BACKUP: > | ^~~~ > Makefile:16: update target 'main-menu' due to: target does not exist > cc -Wl,-z,relro -o main-menu main-menu.o -ldebconfclient -ldebian-installer > Makefile:29: update target 'clean' due to: target does not exist > rm -f main-menu main-menu.o *~ > Makefile:26: update target 'small' due to: target does not exist > ls -l main-menu > ls: cannot access 'main-menu': No such file or directory > make[2]: *** [Makefile:26: small] Error 2 shuffle=reverse The full build log is available from: http://qa-logs.debian.net/2025/05/05/shuffle/reverse/main-menu_1.69_unstable_reverse.log If you reassign this bug to another package, please mark it as 'affects'-ing this package.
