I tried that, and while it appears to have loaded a lot of modules for the sound, it never complained about the firmware, although it also has no message about loading the firmware. Makes me wonder if you need to actually open the sound device to trigger the firmware load. The firmware report in the log only shows iwlwifi as having needed any firmware packages. This sound driver might be doing firmware in a rather unusual way that makes it hard to detect properly. -- Len Sorensen
