While I'm not actively monitoring d-i bugs, we do keep an eye on the task- xfce-desktop in tasksel in order to setup the basic Xfce desktop and try to keep it consistent with xfce4/xfce4-goodies. At this point we don't really have plans to trim completely the task-xfce-desktop dependencies but I'll keep it in mind. I'll update the network manager dependencies though.
