Package: task-lxqt-desktop
Version: 3.63
Severity: minor
Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
Installing using the daily D-I image from here:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/20210131-1/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
Installed it in a VM, as should be seen here (if you look soon enough for
the job not to have been flushed):
https://openqa.debian.net/tests/10133
(I'll attach a screenshot to ensure that this bug report remains
meaningful after those links rot)
* What was the outcome of this action?
This video shows the point in the install where the user is prompted to
choose a display manager:
https://openqa.debian.net/tests/10133/video?filename=video.ogv&t=26.25,26.29
It shows the GDM3's debconf question about which DM should be the default
out of the choices of 'gdm3' and 'sddm'. If only sddm was installed at this
point the question would not need to be asked, which is what we see with
other desktop selections.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
Other desktop tasks, such as task-xfce-desktop avoid bothering the user
about this, despite depending upon lightdm in XFCE's case, so they
presumably avoiding pulling gdm3 in during the install.
HTH
Cheers, Phil.

It certainly can (so I closed it here) since it was caused by an error
in my test scripting, as can be seen here:
https://openqa.debian.net/tests/10133#step/choose_software/3
Note that it has deselected the 'Debian Desktop Environment' option
(rather than what I intended it to do: deselect 'Gnome') with the result
that it installs both desktops, and thus pulls in both display managers.
Sorry for not noticing this sooner.
Cheers, Phil.
