Package: boot-floppies Version: 3.0.20-2002-03-07 Problem installing Woody on Sparc Ultra 2 clone via RARP/TFTP (tftpboot.img). Image downloads fine, then dies immediately with "Fast Instruction Access MMU Miss". Exact transcript follows:
------------------------------------------ SPARCengine(tm)Ultra(tm) AXi (UltraSPARC-IIi 333MHz), No Keyboard OpenBoot 3.10.8 SME, 1024 MB memory installed, Serial #12894524. Ethernet address 8:0:20:c4:c1:3c, Host ID: 80c4c13c. Executing last command: boot net mem=512M Boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/network@1,1 File and args: mem=512M 2b3000 TILO Selecting sun4u kernel... Fast Instruction Access MMU Miss ok ------------------------------------------ [I tried without a 'mem=' setting first, then with 512M and 64M, same problem.] I found a thread from May 2001 in the debian-sparc archive about a problem very like this: http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2001/debian-sparc-200105/msg00086.html The thread didn't seem conclusive about whether the problem was actually fixed. I can do limited testing as this is a production machine, currently running RedHat 6.2 (which I want to migrate to Debian since RH has dropped Sparc support). I can take it down at night and do boot tests for short periods of time. -Doug -- Doug McNaught Wireboard Industries http://www.wireboard.com/ Custom software development, systems and network consulting.
