I tried with Stretch, Buster, Ubuntu... no luck. Fedora ships with deboostrap 1.0.109 and qemu 3.1.1, but I upgraded them to 1.0.115 and 4.1.0. After the upgrade I managed to debootstrap Stretch, but ONLY with --variant=minbase. Still no luck with other targets. Other errors I got while trying different targets/deboostrap versions: stretch i386/amd64 I: Configuring libc-bin... I: Unpacking the base system...
