network-manager and its ecosystem are a component of Gnome; lxqt uses cmst instead which is based on connman. They're roughly equivalent -- and both are merely user-friendly interfaces that's not required to connect to a network. > It is very complicated to install this package > if you have no network connection at all because of all the > dependencies. Well I am just a user, no computer scientist or > programmer If so, I'd recommend giving connman a try. It seems to require no advanced knowledge. I haven't used it much (just on a single phone) thus I don't know its details, but it seems to just do its job, with no poking required. > but I am quite sure that this is not because of some missing > wifi firmware. Good to know -- that's the usual problem. > I suggest to make the whole meta-package dependent of the network-manager > or something like that. It already has that dependency, albeit as an alternative: Recommends: [...], cmst | nm-tray | network-manager-gnome | plasma-nm | wicd Thus: cmst is picked by default, but there are five user interfaces the metapackage is happy with, three of them being network-manager GUIs.
