Comments/Problems:
My DHCP server is set up to dynamically add new clients to my DNS server.
For this to work it needs the hostname of the new client.
Please consider adding the following line to /etc/dhclient.conf
send host-name "<hostname>";
during network confirguration.
Only after adding this line and '/etc/init.d/networking restart' can I
ping the client using the FQDN.
My DHCP and primary DNS server is a Woody box:
dhcp3-server 3.0+3.0.1rc9-2.2 DHCP server for automatic IP address
assignment
dhcp3-common 3.0+3.0.1rc9-2.2 Common files used by all the dhcp3* packages.
bind9 9.2.1-2.woody.1 Internet Domain Name Server
The DHCP server uses the 'interim' ddns update style.
Thanks.
