Hi, I am trying to install Jessie from CDROM (downloaded last night 16/10/2014) and got the same problem.
However, after the apt setup step, I went to a command prompt, chrooted /target and ran "apt-get install linux-image-amd64" manually, which seemed to work. I continued with the installation but then grub failed to load with this error https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=708204 against package grub-efi-amd64 (version 2.00-22). This bug appears to be fixed in 2.00-15 and reading the report it appears to be some sort of failure to detect the correct target so I think it may be a downstream error caused by base-install failing to detect a kernel to install. Further information. I completed the install and booted to the new installation. I got to a grub rescue prompt and couldn't proceed further. I "successfully" installed Wheezy on this machine and booted to it. It loaded and I was able to get to a command prompt but no XFCE. It appears the AMD A6-6310M APU with Radeon R4 Grapics is either not supported by the 3.2 kernel or the version of Xorg with Wheezy (or both). At that point I decided to give Jessie a go since I knew the wireless (Atheros QCA9565) definitely wasn't supported and would require a back-ported kernel. Also, in the shop when I tested the machine (an HP 15-g026au) yesterday with a live boot CD of Ubuntu 14.04, everything seemed to work. BTW, I am new to the whole UEFI thing. I have turned secure boot off but UEFI is enabled. So, I am happy to try and help get Jessie working on new hardware but I am not sure how to go about this. I hope this is constructive. Brendan
