Package: debian-installer Severity: important Tags: l10n d-i Dear Maintainer,
the Debian graphical installer (at least in the Xfce and KDE Live CDs that I've tried) has a severe internationalization problem. My language is Hungarian ("magyar"). Although the installer asks for my keyboard layout, this choice only affects the final installed system: the installer doesn't instantly load the keymap as I would expect. This is a problem because later in the installation I'm asked for my name but I couldn't enter my name correctly, as the required accented letters are not present on the English keyboard. Even more importantly, I almost locked myself out of my account because I wanted to enter a password with accented letters, but if I pressed the correct key on my keyboard, the installer would have registered some other charater which is assigned to that key on the English keyboard. So later I would have had a problem logging in, but I've hopefully figured this out during the installation and chose instead a password that only contained English characters. Note: it _might_ be possible, that other keymaps work, and just my language is broken, but I suppose this is the case with other layouts too. For the above mentioned reasons I ask you to include this feature (hotloading the keymap) into the installer.
