I wanted to beat your argument connecting the troublesome laptop to WAN
directly... and the installation succeeded off the first try! Later
today I swapped the router (Actiontec v1000 with the latest firmware ->
dd-wrt based Cisco) and tried the process one more time, also success.
Therefore you are right! But then the question is why once Debian was
installed (even in the very minimal system) it started to have no
problems of fetching anything from any mirrors at all? Does the
installer have separate (simplified?) implementation of TCP/IP?
