Hmm, I guess this doesn't hurt; but from what I can see, bootstrap-base.postinst calls that function after having installed the base system, and dpkg ships this directory. Is that because of live-installer.postinst, which calls install_live_system instead? If that's the case, saying so in the commit message would be helpful (and would save people some digging).
