Package: partman-base Severity: normal hi,
i used the net-installer method to install onto a current mac book pro. when partitioning started it hang on 50% (step 30parted) forever. when i killed the 30parted-script it hang in 54% (step 35dump) when re-doing the partitiong-step. when investigating further i found that it was reading from a fifo with no reply. i discovered that the other end seems to be a partitioning daemon that just died. i would suggest to detect if the daemon died to prevent hanging somehow if that's possible (removing the fifo if the daemon died?). maybe blindly re-start the daemon could help (it did in my case, it just didn't die again). still the main question is: why did the daemon die at all. as i am not very firm with the whole mac setup (GPT, doubled into MBR, ...) i need some help to determine why the daemon died with my setup (which is quite straight forward: double-boot with osx). maybe it's the new hardware which is probably not often used with debian yet. regards, michael -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.9-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
