1. Install a new system with two blank SATA drives. 2. On the Partition disks screen, choose Manual partitioning. 3. Create a new partition on each disk and use it as a physical volume for RAID. 4. Create a RAID1 using both physical volumes. 5. Create a new partition on the RAID to use for LVM. 6. Configure LVM with a new volume group and two volumes. Use the first for a small boot volume. Use the rest of the available space for the second. 7. Configure a filesystem for /boot on the small volume. 8. Configure the large volume as a physical volume for encryption. 9. Go into "Configure encrypted volumes" and setup the encrypted volume with standard options (in my case, 256-bit aes and custom passphrase). 10. Create a partition on the new encrypted volume, filling all available space, mounted as /. 11. Select "Finish partitioning and write changes to disk" 12. The installer will complain that you forgot to create a swap partition and suggest you go back and add one. 13. Since all available space has been used, no new partitions can be created. The root partition can't be deleted - after selecting "Do not use this volume" then "Finish partitioning and write changes to disk," the changes will not be written because "No root file system is defined." The option to delete the encrypted volume does not appear anywhere. The LVM volume group containing the encrypted volume cannot be deleted or modified because it is "in use as physical volume for encrypted volume root_vg-root_lv_crypt." Choosing guided partitioning does not actually write any changes to disk. Backing out to the detect disks step and trying to start over leaves things in the same situation.
