yeah, I know the rootfs size limitation is a bit of pain. > GNU/Hurd doesn't have lvm2-udeb so can't use partman-lvm either. Feel free to propose a tested (on kfreebsd-*) patch, to be considered for inclusion between rc1 and rc2. Mraw, KiBi.
