Comments/Problems:
Setup as dual-boot with existing Windoze 7.
Windows still works as well as ever when booted via GRUB.
However, booting into the new wheezy gives an unreadable display.
The BIOS and GRUB-select screens come up OK after boot, in text mode.
After wheezy is selected, there appear a few lines of text status,
which disappear very quickly. They are replaced by a scrunched display
of B/W digital hash, approx 50% of screen area, not legible at all.
After maybe 10 or 20 seconds this disappears, and the screen is blank.
I tried to access a text console, via CTRL-ALT-F1
which resulted in a return of the B/W digital hash, but nothing readable.
CTRL-ALT-F7 brought me back to the blank screen.
Luckily, I can SSH to the machine just fine from elsewhere, and look
at stuff, and run aptitude and shutdown, etc.
The video card is a
Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 XT]
Various online research brings me to
http://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo
which looks like I should install some non-free firmware for this card.
I find this in the running dmesg:
root@ivanovad:/var/log# dmesg |grep -i firmware
[ 8.322395] r600_cp: Failed to load firmware "radeon/RV610_pfp.bin"

I put up 3 of the installer logfiles and an Xorg log from the
