Just to maker sure that this bug is not related to any common issues with old CD-ROM drives. K3b was the burning application (for maximum speed) in my previous install trials.
1. Lower Disc write speed: =================== I burned two more discs with the i) previous used Samsung Writemaster and ii) the Packard Bell NEC built-in CD/RW. Now I used 'wodim' with a comand line like so: wodim -dao -speed=4 -eject dev=/dev/sr0 i386/iso-cd/debian-wheezy-DI-b2-i386-netinst.iso With i) the wodim reported the write speed to be 2838 KB/s and with the internal Packard Bell NEC CD/RW ii) 706 KB/s. No wheezy beta-2 boot with these two discs either. Same 'Boot Record' ... 'Not Found' message. 2. DMA settings ============ During boot (with the installed wheezy beta-1) the boot up screen say: Hard Disk(s) Cyl Head Sector Size LBA 32Bit Block PIO UDMA Primary Master: 13410 15 63 6489MB LBA Off 16Sec 4 2 Secondary Slave CDROM 4 N/A Thus I assume that DMA does not to come into play as an issue for the CD-ROM.
