Machine: QEMU Virtual machine (KVM) Processor: Memory: 128 (qemu default) Partitions: none (empty disk) Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [OK] Detect network card: [OK] Configure network: [OK] Detect CD: [OK] Load installer modules: [OK] Detect hard drives: [OK] Partition hard drives: [E] Install base system: [ ] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Overall install: [ ] Comments/Problems: Installer booted fine, was able to configure network/setup users, etc., without a problem. When partitioning, I chose to partition with the default layout, which then failed with the error: 'The ufs file system creation in partition #1 of ATA1 (ad0) failed.' cat'ing /var/log/syslog says: 'partman: mkfs.ufs: partman: /dev/ad0s1: could not find special device' ls /dev/, however, shows: ad0 ad0s1 ad0s2 ad0s5 I see a semi-related bug report: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=610885 which suggests disabling swap, but this did not help for me. I also tried manually partitioning and making the swap partition a primary rather than logical partition, but this too did not help.
