Motherboard is ASUS M4A89 series with on-board NIC (Realtek 8111e). Still, it initiated with the install. It saw my home network and router, but not beyond - but it DID manage to find the Debian website (NOT the pages in the install). DNS lookups failed, but if a TCP address was entered, the site would be found (lookup takes a while though). Traceroute to Google shows: 2 98.67.134.1 adsl-98-67-139-1.shv.bellsouth.net 10 12.123.153.18 crl.attga.ip.att.net 16 * * 17 * * 18 74.125.47.103 yw-in-f103.1e100.net and it takes more than 5 min for Traceroute to finish (each server rectifies very slowly). Other computers on the home network have no problems - we are about 100' from a DSL node. The ifconfig command appears not to work (at least, not in a bash shell). The GUI network administration tool does NOT have an eth0 (or any NIC) tab - only General, DNS, and Hosts. dmesg: [ 1.599444] ehci_hcd 0000:00:12.2: PCI INT B -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 1.599453] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded [ 1.599463] alloc irq_desc for 51 on node 0 [ 1.599464] alloc kstat_irqs on node 0 [ 1.599466] r8169 0000:03:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 51 (level, low) -> IRQ 51 [ 1.599500] r8169 0000:03:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 1.599503] r8169 0000:03:00.0: unknown MAC, using family default [ 1.599537] alloc irq_desc for 61 on node 0 [ 1.599538] alloc kstat_irqs on node 0 [ 1.599547] r8169 0000:03:00.0: irq 61 for MSI/MSI-X [ 1.599934] eth0: RTL8168b/8111b at 0xffffc9000187e000, bc:ae:c5:8b:85:17, XID 0c200000 IRQ 61 Note that the manufacturer board NIC spec is not the same as what dmesg and lspci -nn found Also, I had to disconnect the RAID array because the installer put Linux on it without giving me an option to place it on the un-arrayed drive (which has to be on SATA 5 or 6, since those are IDE compatible and slower). ----- Fight back spam!
