With "virtual KVM rescue systems" I mean setups like: Hetzner's vKVM: http://wiki.hetzner.de/index.php/VKVM_en OVH's vKVM: http://www.ovh.co.uk/items/virtual_kvm.xml And our own software: http://www.noc-ps.com/index.php/documentation/virtual_kvm/ In which a regular dedicated server that normally does not use any virtualization, is network booted into a virtual environement temporarily, to repair boot and firewall problems, or manually install an operating system remotely. Works fine with Linux systems that mount by uuid, since that is a file system attribute, and is the same in both the virtual and real environement. Does not work with Linux distro's that use disk-by-id because in the virtual environement the disk-by-id will be /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-0QEMU_QEMU_HARDDISK_scsi0-hd0 instead of the hard disk name/serial that is used in the real enviroment.
