Comments/Problems:

I used the graphical install.

I have two network cards and both were detected. DHCP configuration
for the card connected to the Internet failed as expected, as I have a
fixed IP with no DHCP. Manual configuration worked fine.

Hostname configuration screen doesn't tell clearly whether the input
should include the domain name. Next screen is domain name conf.
Suggestion: It would be more clear to ask both on the same screen.

For tasks, I selected "Desktop environment", "Web server", "Print
server", "SQL database" and "Standard system". The components were
installed but no questions were asked about configuration. The
behaviour was not consistent:
- In the case of Web server, apache was running and the system was
  serving the "It works" page.
- In the case of Print server, cupsd was running but no printers
were detected or configured. I had to go to Admininstration /
Printers to add my printer manually. See below for more details
  about the printer configuration.
- In the case of SQL database, PostgreSQL was installed but it was
not started. (Postgresql-8.3 was in the list of services started by
default, but needs additional configuration before the actual server
  will start and operate.)
- For each of the servers above (web, print, sql), no questions were
asked nor was the user provided any information where he/she should
look for information or configuration details of the server. This
can be very confusing for a new user. Generally it's a good thing
that the installation goes through with minimal number of questions,
but a user who wants to install a SQL server probably wants to
configure it too - at least to know what is the name of the server
program and where to start configuration after installation.

Printing:
- I have an HP Laserjet 4M+ connected via a USB-Parallel adapter. The
printer was not initially found, but detected (as HP Laserjet 4+)
when I disconnected and reconnected the USB adapter. The behaviour
  was similar in Debian Etch.
- When a printer wasn't detected, the "Add new printer" dialog didn't
offer a possibility to select a printer manually. It only asked to
choose between different types of network printers. This was
  confusing for me.
- Sharing the printer was not automatically enabled. I had to choose
"File / Server settings / Share published printers connected to this
system" in the Printer configuration window after installation. Most
users who choose to install a print server would probably assume
that sharing is enabled by default.
- Even though I selected "A4" as the printer media size, programs
still tried to use "letter" by default. I guess they take their
  value from /etc/papersize.
Suggestion: The installation could ask for paper size or set a
reasonable default based on the computer location. For example in
Finland, A4 paper is far more common than letter paper.

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the installation. It was much
faster than previous versions and most things work out of the box.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
