Package: debian-installer Severity: normal After installation is completed, I am asked if I want to install grub on the master boot record. When I choose not to, I am given an explanation about the naming of devices for Grub and I am prompted to enter the device which I want to install Grub on. The explanation says that for installing Grub on the first extended partition on the third hard disk I can enter (hd2,4).
In my particular case I wanted to install Grub on the first extended partition on the first hard disk and I entered (hd0,4). This results in an error. I try again and this time I enter (hd0,5) and this works. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
