I was secretly hoping to get away with doing just that. :-) The case seems pretty clear for - cryptsetup mappings - LVM LVs I'm less sure about dmraid. From what I learned the device paths there are stable, but controller dependent. So you would have invalid paths after moving disks to another controller. This might be an argument in favour of UUIDs for dmraid? For multipath, as I understood Guido, it is preferrable to refer to them via /dev/disk/by-id/ symlinks.
