Have you tried booting with DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text? > and I expect the hardware flow control to be working. It is not. No ideas about that. If you have the skills, you may be able to do some debugging by booting with BOOT_DEBUG=3. That will give you a debug shell before the installer proper is loaded (before init).
