Perfect: everything is exactly as it is supposed to be! The full CD set and especially its CD1 is GNOME oriented. If you want to install a different desktop, then either use one of the other CD images (businesscard, netinst, DVD, Blu-ray), or use the special XFCE/LXDE CD. If you really, really want to you *can* even install LXDE with CD1 (if you know you're going to be using a mirror or scan sufficient CDs from the set) by adding 'desktop=lxde' as a boot parameter.
