Correct. We are fairly happy with the look of the installer and thus don't have any great urge to change things. And nobody else has proposed any improvements, at least not with working patches that meet the criteria formulated early in the Lenny cycle in a mail to the d-boot and d-desktop lists. The gradient problem mentioned above unfortunately made the variant you proposed unusable.
