The package "gnome-desktop-environment" only "Suggests: gnome-audio",
and so will not install gnome-audio by default during the debian lenny
install.
Would I be correct in saying that the debian-installer would have to be
configured to include gnome-audio for it to be installed. Having
gnome-audio installed as part or the debian lenny installation would
seem to be a logical to me.
Do you believe that gnome-audio should be installed by default during a
Debian Lenny installation ?

During the installation of debian lenny I selected "File Server" and "Print Server" as well as standard
workstation, for the workstation build. I also found this to be an issue in etch 4.0 r6.
When I log in, the pacakge "gnome-audio" is not installed. "gnome-audio" has to be installed manually. I
believe that this package should be installed by default during the installation process like esound-common
is and alsa.

As you can see gnome-audio just contains sounds file, as you can also
read in its description.
gnome-sound is raccomended in gnome-desktop-environment package that is
part of the gnome-desktop task that is the default desktop task.
So I think that if you what this bug is to be opened against
gnome-desktop-environment, as I don't think this is a bug at all I not
going to forward it to gnome-desktop-environment.
