Hi. Colin's patch works here like a charm and we're happy to be able to do automatic installations again.
I injected the patched package into our automatic installation via preseed/early_command: d-i preseed/early_command string if [ `uname -m` = x86_64 ]; then arch=amd64; else arch=i386; fi; wget http://debian.ethz.ch/d-i/libparted1.8-udeb_1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-10.1~fix502618_$arch.udeb; udpkg --unpack libparted1.8-udeb_1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-10.1~fix502618_$arch.udeb Tested it with our fully automatic (preseeding from http://debian.ethz.ch/d-i/p.server) installation on amd64 as well as i386 (both on the same machine though).
