I had the same problem, same solution earlier. I'd do the checking on i386 but
unfortunately I don't have such a box with the disk space to do a boot-floppies
build.

Apparently apus hasn't had a new kernel image since potato (!). It was already
behind then. 2.2.18 for the other architectures seems to be missing too. I
have a patch that addresses all this.
Right now I actually have a fairly promising-looking build going. I'll send
along my patches as soon as it finishes or fails.
