I think you have to upgrade your modutils:

put 
deb-src ftp://ftp.de.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free

into your /etc/apt/sources.list

and do a apt-get --compile source source-name
( go online for this)

where source-name is the name of the modutils package.

you will get a 

modutils*.deb

(do a dpkg -i modutils*.deb) 

I think your new kernel will work after upgrading to the new modutils
