I think the priorities for many things, in addition to the
servers need to be reconsidered, if all standard and higher packages
will be installed by default. Standard now includes emacs20 (and
emacsen-common), tetex-base, tetex-bin, and a tetex library, just to
mention some of the huge packages.
Personally, I cannot imagine a system without emacs, but enough
people favor the other "one true editor" that it is unreasonable to
load up a newby's disk with emacs without giving him a choice.
Likewise, many people will never use tetex, so it shouldn't be pushed
onto someone's disk without asking.
Many of the smaller packages included in standard don't belong
there either.
