It would be nice to be able to get the base system tarball via ftp instead of needing an NFS server around. Also: Why do the boot-floppies require a driver disk? There are certainly situations where I do not need any drivers from the driver disk. Could the driver disk be gotten via FTP or so too? The CD-ROm boots directly into the rescue disk. But how does it then get the driver disk? -- System Information Debian Release: 1.3 Kernel Version: Linux waterf.org 2.0.31 #9 Sun Sep 7 14:23:04 PDT 1997 i486 unknown Versions of the packages boot-floppies depends on: libc5-pic Not installed or no info ncurses3.0-pic Not installed or no info mkrboot Not installed or no info dosfstools Not installed or no info syslinux Not installed or no info sysutils Version: 1.2-1 makedev Version: 1.6-17 --------------------------------------- Received: (at 13021-done) by bugs.debian.org; 23 Aug 2000 15:10:20 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Aug 23 10:10:20 2000 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from kuolema.infodrom.north.de [::ffff:195.27.69.163] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 13RcAQ-0000DJ-00; Wed, 23 Aug 2000 10:10:17 -0500 Received: from finlandia.Infodrom.North.DE (finlandia.Infodrom.North.DE [195.27.69.162]) by kuolema.infodrom.north.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id BE344146E7F for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Wed, 23 Aug 2000 17:06:22 +0200 (CEST) Received: at Infodrom Oldenburg (/\##/\ Smail-3.2.0.102 1998-Aug-2 #2) by finlandia.Infodrom.North.DE via smail from stdin id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wed, 23 Aug 2000 17:10:00 +0200 (CEST) Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 17:10:00 +0200 From: Martin Schulze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Debian Bug report logs - #13021 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: Martin Schulze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii User-Agent: Mutt/1.0i In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; from joey on Wed, Aug 23, 2000 at 04:40:28PM +0200 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Package: boot-floppies > Version: 1.2.23 Being old... > I think there is enough space on the boot floppies to include ftp on it. The boot-floppies now support HTTP for the base system which is more comfortable, I believe. > Also: Why do the boot-floppies require a driver disk? You can skip the drivers disk or install it via fd0/fd1/mounted/harddisk. If you only need a couple of drivers you can load them from an extra disk as well (from 2.2.17 and newer, not released yet) Regards, Joey -- The only stupid question is the unasked one.
