Can you tell us which kernel you are using?

You probably should be using either the vanilla one or else the
'compact' flavor of the 2.2.16 series boot floppies.

If this still does not work, you'll have to file a bug against the
package 'kernel-image-2.2.17' or 'kernel-image-2.2.17-compact' .
