Yes, this was the most annoying thing I found when I installed Debian on my
two machines, it simply wouldn't place LILO anywhere that IBM BootManager
could load it (i.e in the superblock of the extended partition in which I
had the Linux file system). I remember reporting it as a bug against the
Debian 2.1 boot-floppies, but it seems to have been closed without being
fixed?!
