Yes. For that to change we need either phone vendors to be convinced that mainlining their Linux kernel changes (including for obsolete phones) is a good idea, or for there to be enough people from the Linux kernel community who are continually obtaining source code from vendors, rewriting it to be suitable for mainline (and or reverse engineering blobs) and getting it included in mainline.
