I finally looked at piclone source, it uses parted to do the partition stuff, cp to do the actual copying, the GUI is GTK. And it's written in C with popens. https://github.com/raspberrypi-ui/piclone or more directly https://github.com/raspberrypi-ui/piclone/blob/master/src/piclone.c
