Now that you have the system booting into d-i you should be able to complete the Debian install to a working Debian box. Congrats on that, it took me a while to get there too with the help of JFS. The kernel version in the zImage is from http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/armel/daily/iop32x/netboot/ss4000e/ I think and this is v2.6.32.5. This kernel doesn't have any support for the LEDS, fan controller or the power button. This thread http://osdir.com/ml/debian-arm/2012-07/msg00039.html by Arnaud describes how to patch kernel 3.4 to add this support though there are some tricks to this that other threads there discuss (http://osdir.com/ml/debian-arm/2012-07/) and the built zImage has to be patched with devio to insert some binary op-codes to set the correct machine ID. I've run into difficulties building a new 3.4 kernel with the patches applied though the patches are not the issue. Finding a kernel defconfig that builds a zImage/initrd.gz that are not too big for the Flash space and getting the correct paths within the kernel to the loadable modules have been the problems.
Anyone else succeed?
