I know what you mean; my home server is now running off a SheevaPlug,
and it is definitely a bit stressed. It's got five USB hard drives
hanging off the single USB channel, and it doesn't like it. You can't,
e.g., do RAID5 on USB as the bandwidth falls through the floor after
you add the fourth disk. It would be very nice to have a device with
more USB channels, and preferably SATA.
The OpenRD block diagram shows the USB as a 7 port USB hub hanging off a
single USB port on the SOC, so I don't see how the USB would be faster.
You do get 2 SATA channels though. (One with a visble eSATA connecter.
Where is the other?)
Ah, you can see it on the einfochips site,
http://www.einfochips.com/marvell/openrd_client_d.php and specificly:

The Base version also has an available 1x PCIe slot. (On the client
version the PCIe seems to be used by the VGA adaptor). (see
http://www.einfochips.com/marvell/openrd_base_d.php).
