Debian distributes the source code on their http mirror network alongside the binaries. If you look in... http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/source/libs/ ... you will find the svgalib source files. For each package you will find a *.orig.tar.gz which is the original upstream source package and a *.diff.gz which are the patches applied by debian before building. (Note: there may not be a diff.gz if it is a debian original package, also the correspondence between binary package name and location and source package name and location is not always what you think.) e.g.: http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/source/libs/svgalib-dummy_1.4.0-2.tar.gz http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/source/libs/svgalib_1.4.1-2.diff.gz http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/source/libs/svgalib_1.4.1.orig.tar.gz If you do much of this you will want to `man sources.list' and get your `deb-src' lines correct. Then you can just `apt-get source packagename' -- Jim Studt, President The Federated Software Group, Inc.
