I don't think that upgrade changed anything that actually caused the problem. The default mutex implementation has been changed in stretch (since 2.4.20-1) so this hopefully does not happen there anymore. But this is not something that I want to backport to jessie in a stable point release. Unless this affects a lot of people. So, people who encounter this may want to add a note to this bug report.
