Wow! Such great replies! >From what has been said, it looks like a dual opteron with a bunch of memory will do the job. Being a state agency we also need to get 3 bids, so it is extra nice that there are more than a few vendors for these machines.
I've got a bit of web searching to see what I can get but I'll get back with the list once I have a set of choices, just to make sure I don't stumble at the last minute ;-) Thanks for all the great feedback.
