Hello. I'm part of Hypra, a French team working on making debian accessible to blind and low-vision users. Our work is based on MATE and Compiz/Emerald.
As you may guess, our use case requires GUI elements to be reachable using the keyboard only, without any pointer depending of visual feedback. The information in doc/panel-keynav.txt seems very handy, but I suppose it hasn't been checked for some time. The code is there, but I don't see keybindings working on either marco or compiz. Of course I understand that the focus issue is quite hairy, and that the panel is a special case. Using marco I'm able to focus on a panel (particularly if it's only one: having a top and a bottom panel makes it hard to deterministically select one with Ctrl+Alt+Tab) and then proceed with keybindings; using compiz I've yet to find a way. I'm playing with mate-panel from git; in order to use it I recompiled mate-desktop and caja as well, plus libmate-desktop; if I remember correctly that was everything needed to build mate-panel on debian sid. If you have any suggestions please let me know. We want to contribute upstream back to the community every time it's possible as soon as posisble, so I'll take care not to step on your toes.
