Hello,

One thing that has went a bit unnoticed is the possibility to type text
using the PC keyboard as if it was a braille keyboard. To achieve that,
simply uncomment

key-table keypad

from your /etc/brltty.conf, and restart brltty. One can then switch to
braille by pressing insert+asterisk on the numpad, and switch back to
normal by pressing insert+slash on the numpad. The default is to use the
asdfjkl, keys as braille keys, but /etc/brltty/kbd-braille.kti can be
modified to use other keys.

This also works in X, you just need to start xbrlapi to get proper
keyboard mapping. More details in http://wiki.debian.org/accessibility
