Weird. I have one machine saying one thing (the machine which was upgraded from Lenny), and the new machine. Oh, and speakup doesn't work in debian if there are more than 6 text consoles. You'll be merrily typing away, key echo working fine, and then nuthin, and then it works again. Appears to be totally random. Much less so, it will mangle a bit of text it is reading. Try editting /etc/inittab, give yourself another 4 text consoles, skipping #7, then reboot and listen to the fun.
