PS: Isn't the G-Force controller capable of booting directly from harddisk?

I think you're right. I just looked at the box. I remember
deciding not to autoboot off the G-Force because I could then boot into
the onboard 68000 cpu to run some legacy Amiga software that required
it. I may preserve that option with replacement of the 50 MB drive that
died. Right now I'm somewhat more interested in finding an available
harddrive to try the installation of Debian GNU/Linux since I bought the
68k installation CDROM's for sarge from Abexia. I have enough pieces
but just have to find the time to assemble them!
How easy is it to upgrade the 68k sarge to a 2.6 kernel? I noticed
on another Debian mailing list that 2.6.15 is being prepared for Amiga.
I pasted in pieces from the 2 messages:

Header files for Linux kernel 2.6.15 on Amiga machines
This package provides the architecture-specific kernel header files for
Linux kernel 2.6.15 on Amiga machines, generally used for building
out-of-tree kernel modules. These files are going to be installed into
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.15-1-amiga, and can be used for building
modules that load into the kernel provided by the
linux-image-2.6.15-1-amiga package.
.
This packages is produced using an updated kernel packaging system and
replaces older kernel-headers packages
(more stuff deleted)
Your package contains new components which requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the override file about once a week.
You may have gotten the distribution wrong. You'll get warnings above
if files already exist in other distributions.

Thank you, Mr. Kohler, for the script! I was pretty sure that it would
be something like that but didn't remember all the various system
directories that had to be redirected. I guess this script is somewhat
like the chroot command. I just recently got access to Martin Kroft's
book The Debian System. I definitely intend to study that book! I'm
interested in what Debian will do with the Ariadne Internet card, too.
I may yet learn some networking!
