I just upgraded to kernel 2.2.25-mac from the latest unstable sarge build.
My kernel now says it is 2.2.25-mac, but the /proc/filesystems does NOT
contain ext3 as a file system.
My /boot/config-2.2.25-mac DOES contain the line:
CONFIG_EXT3_FS=y
so is there another step I have to take to turn on EXT3 support in the kernel?

Check /proc/filesystems. If it contains "ext3", then your kernel
supports ext3.
